I remember the day I went into labor like it was yesterday, I remember the nurses and doctors listing off so many things that could be wrong with our son and my heart was breaking. But, when he came out screaming and the NICU nurses left the room, I felt whole again. I know we have not had to endure some of the things others have had to with a 35 weeker or earlier, but that doesn't make our story any less important. And I am forever grateful that our son was able to come home and the only thing that we had to deal with was jaundice. But, what is important is that we recognize every early or premature baby before the 37th week. Whether your child was born at 22 weeks or 36 weeks, they're all too early and we need to come together as one and fight prematurity together and be there for each other. I have chosen to blog and share our story with the world so that others can find some strength in my words. I want other women, or parents in general, to know they are not alone. That many of us have gone through these scary situations. If we share our stories with each other maybe it will make things a little easier, less scary and embrace what cards we have been dealt. So, heres to all those tiny miracles that entered the world before 37 weeks, today is your day and lets be thankful that they're here and thriving!!!
okay, now that I have got that off my chest...
Spencer is growing faster than we ever thought was possible. He has 4 teeth and will be crawling soon. Time to baby proof! His favorite baby food is mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. He is now dancing while sitting up, it is the cutest thing in the world and I will play music just to see him boogie. He is still sleeping through most nights, but only naps for a half hour twice a day. He claps, high fives, makes a smacking noise with his mouth, smiles, giggles and says mama and dada. He says mama only when he's crying or tired, otherwise its all DADA DADA, but may I add; he did say MAMA first :)
We recently just arrived home from our first rode trip with Spencer, we were in the car for total of 24 hours over 6 days and Spencer was a champ! We were so proud of him, he drank cold bottles (which he never does, they always have to be warm) he played with his toys and dropped every single one on the car floor so they were out of reach to mommy. He was fussy twice during all the car rides and if I put on Little Einsteins on youtube he calmed right down. We went to Tennessee first and visited extended family, it was so fun. We stayed in a cabin, took a boat ride on Dale Hollow Lake, had a huge family dinner and we were swinging on a swing inside a house, how awesome is that.
After 2 days we got into the car again to start our trek to Charleston, WV. We broke this drive up into 2 days and stayed in Lexington, KY for a night. Our hotel in Lexington was awesome, great for having a baby with you. We took spencer to the pool for the first time and he hated it, I was so sad. You see, I grew up in the water. I swam competitively from 6 years old to 18 years old, I am determined to make him a water baby and am currently searching for baby swim classes over the winter.
Once we arrived in Charleston, we were surrounded by so many Campbell family members and it was so nice. we spent a whole weekend together celebrating Kyle's cousin Scott's wedding. Everyone congregated in the hotel lobby for drinks, pizza, breakfast, whatever it was we were all together. It was so fun and it we miss it already!
Now, that were home we are gearing up for the holidays, we will have a christmas tree next weekend and I will start christmas shopping next Thursday (THANKSGIVING) I cannot believe we have about 9 days until Thanksgiving, our house loves the holidays and we are so excited to share in our first holiday season with our son, who I am sure is going to be so spoiled :) Thats what happens when you're the only grandchild, for now at least. I am so tempted to start holiday decor and if I can talk Kyle into it I will, but he's usually pretty strict on not decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.
I will post updates through the holidays!! For a day by day look into our life please follow me on instagram @campbellchaos
